Birds of Prey: Iillegally poisoned and trapped by some gamekeepers in the belief that they kill large numbers of gamebirds, were rejected last week. Government wildlife advisers have concluded that overgrazing by sheep and deer on heather moorlands is the key to the sharp decline of grouse.
Claims by pigeon fanciers that the recovering number of hawks and falcons are damaging their sport, picking off racing birds during the Spring and Summer, have also been rejected. The report says that most pigeons are lost as a result of bad weather or collisions.
